To kickstart science fortnight we invited scientists into school to hold workshops with each year group. Year 1 had lots of fun with the rocket challenge and Year 2 were adding things to water as part of a kitten rescue. Year 3 and Year 6 learnt how crimes are solved using fingerprints and blood spatter patterns. Year 4 used elastic racers to see how far their cars would go and Year 5 completed a time challenge with jigsaw puzzles.
The following week was the Science Fair where children have the opportunity to complete science projects and bring them into school. This year we had some fantastic entries from the whole school; the quality of projects was incredible. Children had spent lots of time on the experiments and recording what had happened and many had even worked together to create their projects. Parents were wowed when they came into see them. They were also invited to take part in science lessons in class and loved the workshops with their children. They took part in a range of different scientific activities such as making a water filter, replicating a beak to pick up food and making electrical circuits. At the end of the week, it was a really hard task for the judges to pick winners. For the first time the Science Ambassadors also got to vote for their own winner.
