Willkinson's Got Talent 2023
12th July 2023

Congratulations to Year 1 JS who won  'Wilkinson's Got Talent 2023' with their fantastic 'Around the World' dance. Well done to all of them, their dancing was brilliant! Also appearing in the grand final were Nursery with their brilliant 'Wilkofari' and Year 6 CB who put on the hilarious 'Bradley's Got Talent'.

All the children who took part demonstrated amazing talents and abilities and deserve a huge well done. The judges had an immensely difficult time making their decisions because of the quality of the performances.

Well done to all!

Swimming Notice
9th June 2023

Dear Parents,

It is with regret that I am writing to you today. As you are aware the pool was vandalised a couple of weeks ago and after a lot of hard work and money, the pool was reinstated to its former glory.

However, last night there was a second attempt to vandalise the pool. It is with a heavy heart that I have made the very difficult decision to have the pool removed.  I am unable to take the risk to compromise our children’s safety.

It is a great shame that 500 children are having to miss out on learning some of the most important life skills. Not only is water safety vital, living in an area with canals, learning to swim is great exercise and can help with stamina building.

These acts are mindless! What is most disappointing is that these vandals live in the local area and our community. I am sure that they are known to us! Wilkinson Primary School has suffered from vandalism in the past with devastating results! I simply can’t take the risk of anything happening to our children or staff.

If you do have any information to help with the identification of these individuals, please let me know ASAP.

Yours sincerely

Mrs C. J. Gibbon

They found out that his birthday is on 8th May and decided to make him a birthday card, which was posted to him. The children and staff were elated to receive a reply hand written by David Attenborough himself

Shakespeare Fortnight
10th March 2023

The children have enjoyed 'Shakespeare Fortnight'. This year we were looking at:

The Tempest

The Tempest is a tragedy about Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who uses magic and spells to create a huge storm (Tempest) which shipwrecks his brother and others on his magic island. The leads to Prospero gaining revenge on his brother and others who plotted against him and brings together his daughter, Miranda, and Ferdinand who fall in love. It contains some of Shakespeare's most famous lines including 'What strange new world is this...'

Each Class has a scene from the play to perform and we were again delighted to welcome to school  professional actors from Icarus Theatre who are helping the children to stage their scenes.

The children have taken part in lots of activities to do with the play, have entered competitions and enjoyed dressing up as characters from the play on Friday!

Proposed changes to the Local Authority's School Admissions criteria
31/10/2022

The Local Authority are seeking views about a proposed change to their School's Admissions Criteria

The change is regarding children of members of staff.

They are holding a consultation about this change and are seeking parental views on it.

The full text of the proposed change and the Local Authority's rationale for making the change are set out below.

In accordance with the School Admission Regulations and the School Admissions Code, the City of Wolverhampton Council is consulting on its proposed admission arrangements for 2024-25 for all community and voluntary controlled schools in the local authority’s area.

This consultation relates to the overall admissions arrangements with one proposed change to add an oversubscription criterion for children whose parent/carer is a member of staff employed at the school.

Children whose parent/carer is a member of staff employed at the school

This applies where the parent/carer has been employed by the school for two or more years at the time at which the application of admission to the school is made, and/or where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the school for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage. This criterion applies to all permanent staff members, and excludes staff employed on a casual/temporary contract.

The rationale for including children of staff at the school as a criterion is that it can assist with staff recruitment for vacant posts for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage and aid retention of staff.  Available data suggests that the number of children that would be allocated under this criterion is low and should not displace children from being able to attend a local school.

Please see attached the proposed arrangements which also can be found here relating to community and voluntary controlled schools and including the coordinated admissions scheme.

The consultation runs from 31 October 2022 until 16 December 2022 at which point the consultation will end. Comments on the admission arrangements can be submitted here or sent to Kelly Wheatley by email at school.organisation@wolverhampton.gov.uk or by post to Kelly Wheatley, School Admissions and Appeals Manager, City of Wolverhampton Council, Civic Centre, St. Peter’s Square, Wolverhampton WV1 1RR.

Please note comments by email or post should arrive no later than 16 December 2022.

Year 3 Stone-Age Experience at The Kingswood Trust
September 2022

Year 3 visited the Kingswood Trust to take part in a Stone Age Experience.

During the day we built shelters from branches and ferns like Stone Age people would have done when they were hunting for food.

We saw how to make a fire. We stripped thin branches of willow so they were clean and twisted bread dough onto them. We cooked our bread over the fire. Some of us were brave enough to eat our bread.

We learnt about how Stone Age people used flint to make tools and weapons and tried to shoot an arrow and throw a spear. We went foraging for fruits, nuts and berries.

We had to try to work out how Stone Age people moved the huge stones that were used to make Stonehenge.

We had a fantastic day.
